Pledge Questions

What is the Pledge?

Liberty Mutual Insurance created the Play Positive Pledge ("Pledge") to help promote good sportsmanship in youth sports. The idea: rally parents, coaches, and team supporters to all agree to sign a pledge committing to promote, celebrate, champion and advocate for good sportsmanship in games, practices and in the stands to keep the youth sports experience positive and fun. To help encourage adults to participate, we're rewarding 30 teams each year who rally the most number of adult supporters to sign the Pledge.

What are the Pledge seasons?

We have three seasons annually for your supporters to Pledge and assign their point to your organization:

  • Spring: February 15 – April 15
  • Fall: August 15 – October 15
  • Winter: November 15 – January 15
Organization registration is open year round.

When do Pledge seasons officially open and close?

Each season opens at 12:01am and closes at 11:59pm Eastern Time. Pledging happens right up the last minute and leaderboard results often change in these closing minutes. Each season's opening and closing dates are as follows:

  • Spring: Opens February 15th at 12:01am ET and closes on April 15th at 11:59pm ET
  • Fall: Opens August 15th at 12:01am ET and closes on October 15th at 11:50pm ET
  • Winter: Opens November 15th at 12:01am ET and closes on January 15th at 11:50pm ET
Organization registration is open year round.

What is the meaning of a Pledge season?

Pledge seasons are the windows in which you can recruit your supporters to take the Pledge and assign their Pledge point to your organization.

Outside of the Pledge seasons only organization registration is open. It is a great idea to register your organization at any time so you are ready for the next season and do not have to wait for approval. You will also have access to tips and tools to help you prepare for the season that is right for you.

I'm not a parent of an athlete -- I'm a grandparent / family friend/ supporter of a team. Can I take the Pledge?

Yes! We'd love for you to take the Pledge and support youth sports athletes! As long as you are over the age of 18, you can take the Pledge.

Can I take the Pledge multiple times?

Sorry! Unfortunately, you can only take the Pledge once per Pledge season and you can only assign that Pledge to one team. However, we encourage you to come back and take the Pledge each season (fall, winter and spring) to continue to help promote sportsmanship in youth sports.

Registration is open year-round. So register anytime, day or night!

Why do you have to approve my organization?

The Pledge is only open to youth sports teams and organizations and we want to make sure that winning organizations are using the money to support youth sports activities. The program is not open to adult youth sports organizations, for-profit training centers, sports camps, gyms or past winners of our programs. For a complete list of the eligibility requirements, please read our Official Rules.

My organization participated in Community Grant, do I need to register again?

Yes. The Play Positive Pledge is a brand new program and separate from our former Community Grant program.

I haven't received my organization approval - now what?

Please be patient. Approval can take up to five (5) business days. If you have not heard back in five (5) business days, please contact us.

My organization was denied - why?

You could have been denied because you represent an adult sports organization, a for-profit training center, a sports camp, a gym or maybe your organization was one of our lucky past winners of one of our other programs. For a complete list of the eligibility requirements, please read our Official Rules. If you think we made a mistake in denying your organization eligibility, send us an email.

What are the two divisions? Which division will we compete in?

The two divisions are:

  2. Large (more than 100 athletes in the organization)
When you register you will be automatically assigned to a division based on your registration details.

I registered my organization, what are the next steps?

The next step is to recruit your adult supporters to take the Pledge and assign their point to your organization. As an Administrator you have access to Tools on your Pledge page to help recruit support. You can send a custom email, get posts for Facebook, tips for how to do events plus much more. Remember the top 5 organizations in each division (Small and Large) will each earn the $2,500. Check the leaderboard and your Pledge page often to see how you are doing.

I registered this season but want to participate next season – is that ok?

Yes! You can register and participate in any Pledge season until you earn a Pledge. You only have to register your organization once and then start to recruit support during the season you want to participate in. You can participate in multiple seasons. Note that Pledges from one season do not roll into another season so you will have to remind everyone (including the Administrator) to re-pledge.

Points Questions

What is a 'point'? How do you earn a point?

A point is earned when you take the Pledge. You can then assign your point to a participating youth sports organization as part of our Play Positive Pledge program. Points don't count towards the Play Positive Pledge program program until you verify your email address, so please remember to do so!

Why are points subject to verification?

We verify all points to make sure they are earned according to the Official Rules. We take gaming seriously and, as you'll see in our Official Rules, we audit all points to make sure that winning organizations have done so fairly.

I just took the Pledge and my point was not added to the Leaderboard - what happened?

Your point does not count towards the Leaderboard until you verify your email address. Please make sure you verify your email address via the link in the email that was sent to your email address.

Can I earn multiple points in a single Pledge season?

Unfortunately, no, you can't earn multiple points in the same season. Only one point can be associated to one user (one email address)

Winner Questions

What do the teams or organizations with the most points at the end of each Pledge season receive?

The youth sports organizations with the highest point totals at the end of each season each receive a $2,500 grant from Liberty Mutual Insurance. The monies are sent to the organization itself and for use only for organization expenses. The Play Positive Pledge grant is not eligible for use by individuals.

How do you determine the organizations that receive the grants?

The top five (5) organizations in each division (we have two divisions – large and small – so we'll have 10 winners in each season) that earned the most points at the end of each Pledge season.

If our organization is on the top of the leaderboard at the end of the Pledge season, does that mean we won?

Unfortunately, no. The leaderboard represents unofficial results. At the end of the Pledge season, we audit all Pledges to confirm that all points are valid and that no gaming exists among any of our participating organizations. Sometimes the final results change when invalid Pledges are removed.

We'll make an official announcement of the winners shortly after the close of each season.

My team wasn't in the top 5 of the leaderboard at the end of the Pledge season, does that mean we didn't win?

Don't give up hope! All points are subject to audit to ensure that they meet our Official Rules and sometimes organizations at the top of the leaderboard fall off the leaderboard and organizations who finished just below the Top 5 are in fact our winners. We'll have an official announcement of the winners – until then, stay patient and keep your hopes up!

When do you announce the winners?

The Play Positive Pledge winners first have to go through an audit process. After all ten (10) organizations have gone through the audit process; the winners will be announced. Typically, the winners are announced 2-3 weeks after the close of each Pledge season.

Where can I go to see the winner announcement?

The winners will be announced on PlayPositive.com and sometimes we do exclusive announcements for our fans and email subscribers. Watch PlayPositive.com for more information.

Where can I go to see past winners?

After our first season in the Fall of 2014 we will add a winner gallery. Stay tuned for more information.

We didn't earn a grant from the Play Positive Pledge last season. Can we compete again this season? Do our old points count?

Yes, you can complete in as many Play Positive Pledge seasons as you like if you have not won. Please note that previously earned points do not transfer from one Pledge season to the next. But the good news? You don't need to register again. Your organization is already in our system and so you are ready to go the next time a Pledge season opens.

My organization won, can I participate again?

Once your organization earns the $2,500 you are unable to participate as an Administrator or Supporter in a different season with the same email address – that email address is no longer eligible.

What can teams do with the money they win?

The possibilities are endless! Teams in the past have purchased new uniforms or equipment, repaired fields or started athlete scholarships. Just remember that the funds must be used to serve the youth portion of the organization as per the Official Rules
